Global AI Investment Hits Record Levels in 2026 — Here's Where It's Going
Startup funding just had its biggest half-year ever
Global venture funding reached a record $510 billion in the first half of 2026, according to Crunchbase data — surpassing the entire $440 billion invested across all of 2025. OpenAI and Anthropic alone accounted for $217 billion, roughly 43% of all startup funding in H1 2026, showing just how concentrated AI capital has become around a handful of frontier labs.
Big tech is committing nearly $700 billion to AI infrastructure
The world's largest technology companies have collectively committed close to $700 billion to AI infrastructure this year. Microsoft has guided for over $80 billion in AI-enabled data centers in fiscal 2026, Alphabet is expected to spend roughly $75 billion in capex weighted toward AI, and Meta has guided for $60–65 billion in AI-driven capital expenditure.
South Korea just made an $880 billion national bet
South Korea announced an $880 billion, 10-year investment plan covering semiconductors, AI infrastructure, and robotics, with Samsung and SK Hynix alone committing a combined $518 billion toward new chip fabrication capacity — one of the largest coordinated national AI infrastructure bets globally to date.
The market itself is still growing fast
The global AI market is projected to reach roughly $617.62 billion in value by the end of 2026, while the broader global semiconductor market — the hardware layer AI depends on — is now expected to hit $1.3 trillion in 2026, an upward revision from the $1.0 trillion projection made just four months earlier.
What this scale of investment means for businesses
This level of capital concentration means compute availability and pricing will keep shifting quickly, frontier model capability will keep advancing faster than most roadmaps assume, and competitive pressure to adopt AI meaningfully — not just experiment with it — will keep intensifying across every region and industry we work in, from the US and Europe to the Gulf and Asia.
